Characteristics

D. vinaceo valde affine, sed distinguitur: receptaculo multo minore, brevissime crateriformi; petalis late expansis (in D. vinaceo petala erecto-recurva), ab initio rubro-puipureis, inferne albis itaque oculum formantibus, ad 1 cm. longis; staminodiis paucioribus, apice minus recurvis, pro parte brevioribus (in D. vinaceo staminodia staminibus conspicue longiora); filamentis albis, ad 6 mm. longis.

Nnial, mat-forming, dwarf shrublet, up to 0.15 m high, up to 0.3 m in diam., roots fibrous. Leaves lanceolate, acute to acuminate; leaves and sepals covered with rounded bladder cells. Flowers 1-3, white to pale or bright pink; sepals tinged red. Flowering time spring to late summer. Capsules pale brown, shallow, 5-locular, closing bodies absent, covering membranes reduced.
