Characteristics

Monoecious shrub or tree to 10 m high, puberulous. Leaves: lamina very broadly ovate, regularly dentate, cordate at base, 18–25 cm long, 16–22 cm wide, pubescent to puberulous with irritant hairs; lateral veins 6–8 pairs, the basal pair prominent; petiole 18–22 cm long; stipules 1–1.5 cm long. Inflorescence a bisexual, compact, densely packed raceme, to 9 cm long, paired. Tepals 4. Male flowers: pistillode c. 0.5 mm long. Female flowers: perianth c. 1 mm long; ovary to 1 mm long; stigma to 2 mm long. Achenes c. 1.5 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, warty, covered by lateral tepals.
