Characteristics

Tree to 8 m high; branchlets glabrous. Leaves: lamina obovate, oblong-obovate or elliptic, mostly 3–8 cm long and 1–4 cm wide, attenuate base, entire margin, obtuse or acute apex, subcoriaceous, glabrous; secondary veins 3–5 pairs; petiole 3–7 mm long. Racemes axillary or lateral, 0.5–5 cm long; pedicels 0.5–4 mm long. Sepals 4, broadly ovate. c. 1 mm long. Petals 4, oblong, 1.8–2.5 mm long. Stamens 4; filaments 0.9–1.2 mm long. Disc 4-angled, c. 1 mm wide. Ovary glabrous, 2-locular; style 0.2–0.4 mm long; stigma 2-lobed. Capsule ± obovoid, compressed, 7–9 mm long, 5–6 mm wide, 2-valved. Seeds 1 or 2, black, with a thick, fleshy, yellow aril at base.
