Characteristics

Tree to 8 m high; branchlets glabrous. Leaves: lamina obovate or broadly elliptic, attenuate base, obtusely serrate or subentire margin, obtuse or acute apex, 3–10 cm long, 1.7–5 cm wide, subcoriaceous, glabrous; secondary veins 5–8 pairs; petiole 3–6 mm long. Flowers in lateral or axillary bracteate fascicles of 3–12, sometimes solitary; pedicels 2.5–3 mm long, glabrous. Sepals 4 or 5, broadly ovate, 0.4–0.6 mm long. Petals 4 or 5, oblong-ovate, 1.7–2 mm long. Stamens 4 or 5; filaments 1.8–2.2 mm long. Disc thick, notched, 1.5–1.7 mm diam. Ovary glabrous, 2-locular; style 0.5–0.6 mm long; stigma 2-lobed. Capsule globular or obovoid, 5–7 mm long, 4–7 mm diam., 2-valved. Seeds 1 or 2, ± surrounded by aril.
