Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 6 m high, glabrous; branchlets striate. Leaves: lamina oblanceolate or narrowly elliptic, sometimes falcate, 2–6 cm long, 4–17 mm wide, attenuate base, entire margin, acute or rounded-obtuse apex, rigidly chartaceous, recurved; secondary veins 5–8 pairs; petiole 0.6–1 mm long. Inflorescence 1–3 (rarely to 15)-flowered; pedicels 2–3 mm long. Sepals broadly ovate, c. 1 mm long. Petals oblong-obovate, 3.3 mm long. Staminal filaments to 1.5 mm long. Ovary partly immersed in disc, 3-locular with 4–6 ovules per locule. Style 0.8 mm long; stigma 3-lobed. Capsule obovoid or ovoid, 10–18 mm long, 3-valved; valves coriaceous, c. 0.5 mm thick. Seed ± half-surrounded by aril.
