Leaf-blades 10–30 cm. long and 3–5 mm. wide, flat, or rolled when dry, coarsely ridged above, scabrid on the ridges; ligule subchartaceous, 10–18 mm. long.. Panicle oblong, ± 20 cm. long, loose.. Spikelets linear, 7–8 mm. long, 2–3-flowered, green tinged with purple and with golden tips; lower glume linear to narrowly lanceolate, acute, the upper elliptic-linear to narrowly elliptic-lanceolate, 3-nerved, acute; lemma lanceolate-oblong to oblong, 4–5 mm. long, obtusely 2-lobed with the lobes minutely lacerate, awned from near the base; awns straight, capillary, up to 5 mm. long, scarcely projecting beyond the glumes..
