Characteristics

Liana. Shoots and branchlets puberulous. Leaves: petiole (2–) 3–11 mm long; lamina lanceolate or narrowly ovate, 5–16 cm long, 2–5.5 (–6) cm wide, acute to obtuse at base, acute (to acuminate) at apex, glabrous above, glaucous and appressed-puberulous below; secondary veins 9–13 pairs. Flowers c. 3–3.5 cm diam., with odour. Pedicel 3.5–5 cm long, puberulous; bract 8–15 mm long, 2–5 mm wide. Sepals 3, ovate, 22–24 mm long, 12–13 mm wide (10–17 × 8 mm, fide Zich et al. 2020), acuminate, appressed-puberulous, glaucous. Petals 3 + 3 in 2 whorls, sparsely appressed-puberulous, yellow often tinged with red inside near base; outer petals ovate, 40–55 mm long, 23–31 mm wide; inner petals elliptic, 32–38 mm long, 15–20 mm wide. Stamens 80–100, (1–) 1.7–2 mm long. Carpels 22–40; ovary 2–2.5 mm long. Apocarps 3.5–8 cm long, 0.5–0.8 (–1) cm wide, divided into usually 3–8 segments (each segment containing a single seed), yellow, pink or red (ripening to dark red); stipe (4–) 8–12 mm long. Seeds (1–) 3–8, ellipsoidal, 9–12 mm long, 5.5–6 mm wide.
