Characteristics

Perennial, sprinkled with papillate, ±appressed hairs; stock often branched. Leaves sessile, alternate. Flowers in loose, terminal racemes, bracteolate; pedicel obsolete. Sepals connate towards base, often unequal. Corolla scarcely bilabiate, tubular, ±dilated basally, not pouched, with dense vesicular hairs towards base of lobes; lobes almost equal, winged, without auricles; rows of enations in throat on darker lines. Anthers connate. Ovary 2-locular; style simple; indusium horizontal, compressed laterally; ovules solitary in each locule. Fruit dry, indehiscent, with hard endocarp. Seeds ovoid, without wing or rim. Embryo terete.
