Leaf-lamina 6–12 x 2·5–5·2 cm., ovate, rounded or subcordate at the base, acute at the apex, entire or minutely crenulate, coriaceous, very discolorous, dark green above, pale or light green beneath, sparsely setose on both sides, the bristles very short and with a bulbous base, longer beneath on the nerves, the 5–7 longitudinal nerves impressed above, raised below, the transverse ones inconspicuous on the upper face, visible, slender and slightly prominent on the under one; petiole 0·9–2·5 cm. long, densely appressed-setose.
A tree up to 18 m. tall or a shrub; bole 25–40 cm. in diameter; crown narrow, sparse; bark light brown or grey-brown, thin, loosely and shallowly longitudinally furrowed; young branches obscurely 4-gonous, thickened at nodes, densely appressed-setose (bristles bulbous at base, longer and stiffer at the nodes), the oldest subterete, glabrescent.
Fructiferous receptacle 10–13 x 9–11 mm., campanulate; sepals persistent, hardened and somewhat accrescent. Capsule c. 10 x 9 mm., subequalling the receptacle, truncate at the top, appressed-setose on c. the upper half.
A tree. It grows 9-15 m tall. The branches have 4 angles. The nodes are swollen. The leaves are oval and 6-12 cm long by 3-4.5 cm wide. The flowers are in a loose group at the ends of branches.

Stamens subequal with yellow or pale lemon anthers 8–10 mm. long, crimson pedoconnective ± 4 mm. long and crimson appendages 2–2·5 nun. long.
Receptacle c. 7 x 5 mm., campanulate, setose, the bristles appressed, short, subulate, bulbous at base.
Sepals c. 2 x 3 mm., widely triangular or semicircular, confluent at the base, obtuse, red, ciliolate.
