Characteristics

Dwarf shrub or perennial herb, up to 1.5 m high; many stemmed, erect. Leaves trifoliolate; leaflets narrowly obovate; appressed-pubescent; stipules present. Flowers: inflorescence 1-or 2(-4)-flowered, leaf-opposed on lateral branches, leaves of flowering branches alternate; peduncles leafless; calyx relatively long (at least half length of keel), deeply bilabiate; corolla yellow; Oct.-Apr. Pods linear, 3-4 mm in diameter.

Inflorescence a strictly leaf-opposed raceme, 1-2(-4)-flowered. Calyx long, 5-8 mm long, deeply bilabiate, with acuminate lobes. Leaves 3-digitate; leaflets narrowly oblanceolate, appressedly pubescent. Stipules often present. Fruit linear, 3-4 mm wide, (3-)7(-9)-seeded. Seed round to oblong in lateral view, brown, often mottled black.

Racemes leaf-opposed on short lateral branches, up to 1 cm long, 1–2(4)-flowered.
Flowers similar to D. reflexus, but calyx sometimes a little longer, 5–8 mm long.
