Characteristics

Robust, much-branched, perennial herb or dwarf shrub, 0.2-1.0 m high. Leaves digitately 3(-5)-foliolate, petiolate. Leaflets oblanceolate to widely oblanceolate, appressedly pubescent. Stipules usually absent. Inflorescences terminal, 2-or 3(-11)-flowered racemes, rarely leaf-opposed. Flowers yellow. Calyx long, more than half as long as keel petal, deeply bilabiate; lobes long-acuminate. Petals: standard glabrous at tip. Flowering time Oct.-Feb. Pod widely linear. Seeds dark green to almost black.

Fruit broadly linear, 4.5-5.5 mm wide, (2-)5(-7)-seeded. Seed round to transversely oblong in lateral view, uniform dark green to almost black.
Leaflets 5–18 × 2–7 mm, oblanceolate to obovate-oblanceolate, rounded to slightly emarginate at the apex, minutely apiculate, appressed pubescent beneath; petiole shorter than the leaflets; stipules usually absent, if present then only at insertion of leaf-opposed racemes.
Racemes terminal on lateral branches, rarely leaf-opposed, 1–4 cm long, laxly 2–4(11)-flowered; bracts 2–3 mm long, linear ± as long as the pedicel; bracteoles on the pedicel, a little smaller.
Pods 25–35 × 4.5–5.5 mm, narrowly oblong, pubescent only along the sutures, particularly the upper one, (3)4–6-seeded.
Standard pale yellow, with a few hairs outside medially and apically; wings shorter than the keel; keel 8–10 mm long.
Small bushy shrub 0.3–1.3 m tall, the thin stems sometimes forming clumps; branches appressed pubescent.
Calyx 4.5–7 mm long, appressed pubescent; lips longer than the tube, shortly lobed.
Seeds 2.5–3 mm across, dark green to almost black.
