Characteristics

Epiphytic herbs, the stems glabrous, minutely lenticellate, to 20 cm tall. Leaves sessile or subsessile, alternate, anisophyllous, the larger blades disti-chous, narrowly falcate oblong, occasionally vaguely narrow trapeziform, 4.5-10.0 cm long, 0.8-1.7 cm wide, the smaller blades narrowly subulate, to 10 mm long, occupying varying positions on the stem, the blades of the larger leaves with the costa plane beneath, to 1.5 mm wide, the lateral veins not visible (made visible by soaking), ca. 8, arcuate, forming a distinct, undulate, submarginal vein well in from the margin, with a slender vein paralleling the margin ca. 0.1 mm from the margin, chartaceous, concolorous, glabrous, smooth, minutely silver scaly under a lens, the margin vaguely-revolute; stipules triangular, ca. 1 mm long, often deciduous. Inflorescences terminal, to 3.5 cm long, the peduncle 1.0-1.5 cm long, terminated by 2 large, subrotund bracts, to 1.5 cm wide, minutely acuminate, glabrous, membranous, replete with cystoliths, blue violet or some-times green, enclosing 2 flowers, the bracteoles several, subulate, unequal, short-er than the calyx. Flowers at anthes-is exceeding the bracts, sessile, the hypan-thium to 2 mm long, to 1.8 mm wide, glabrous, the calycine cup absent, the lobes 5, subulate, subequal, ca. 1 mm long, glabrous; corolla bluish, the lobes white, to 1.8 cm long, the tube funnelform, to 5 mm wide above the middle, to 2 mm wide below the middle, glabrous outside,-a few hairs within below the filament attachment, the lobes 5, the basal portion of each lobe ovate oblong, to 2 mm
