Characteristics

Plant either single-stemmed or forming tufts of a few stems.. Corms 2-3 cm. diameter.. Leaves several, the basal 55-90 cm. long, 6.5-12 mm. wide, sheathing cauline leaves 3-4.. Stems 1.35-1.65 m. long, 2-5-branched, or more.. Spikes pendulous; terminal spike 8-11-flowered; lateral spikes 4-8-flowered; flowers somewhat crowded (bracts usually ± 2 internodes long); bracts 1.6-2.3 cm. long, obovate, acute; veins many, coalescing to form a solid patch reaching up to 3/4 of the way up the bract, drying light buff, or sometimes flecked with brown, or rarely wholly brown, margins and shoulders heavily flecked.. Flowers rose-to purple-pink, 2-2.9 cm. long; tube 6.5-10 mm. long; tepals 1.2-1.9 cm. long, 5-8.5 mm. wide.. Anthers 6-6.5(-7) mm. long.. Stigmas reaching 2.5-6.5 mm. below the tepal-apices.
