Characteristics

Plants 0.75-1.5 m high, solitary. Corm ± 15-30 mm diam. Stem with lowermost peduncle ± 80-180 mm long. Foliage leaves several, 400-850 x 3-5 mm; reduced sheathing leaves 4. Spike pendulous, densely 8-to 14-flowered, coflorescences 3 to 7(9), each 6-to 11-flowered; bracts obovate to lanceolate, acuminate, (13-)16-24 x 5-8 mm, longer than two internodes, white or lightly flecked all over, main veins 4 or 5 each side of midvein. Flowers bell-shaped with tepals suberect or flaring apically, dark purple-red; perianth tube (5.5-)6.0-7.0 mm long; tepals 8.0-11.5 x 3-5 mm. Anthers 5-6 mm long. Stigmas held at top of perianth or up to 4 mm below.
