Characteristics

Plants ± 1500 mm high, solitary or a few stems tufted together. Corm ± 25 mm diam. Stem with lowermost peduncle 55-110 mm long. Foliage leaves several, 600-900 x 4-8 mm; reduced sheathing leaves 3 or 4. Spikes pendulous, terminal 6-to 8-flowered, laterals (4)7 to 10, each 3-to 6-flowered; bracts elliptic, acute, 17-30 x 8-10 mm, less than two internodes long, flecked brownish all over but more lightly toward margins or sometimes whitish, lateral veins 5 each side of main vein. Flowers funnel-shaped, dark pink with purplish tube; perianth tube (8.5-)15.0-24.0 mm long; tepals (20-)33-46 x (8-)10-16 mm, ± conduplicate apically with tips recurved and twisted. Anthers 8.5-11.0 mm long. Stigmas held 11-24 mm below top of perianth.

Flowering stems 1.35-1.50 m high. Inflorescence a raceme of spikes, with 4-10 lax branches. Bracts white with pale brown streaks, 7-30 long, elliptic, acute, flecked all over and margins. Perianth blue-purple, 50-70 mm long; tube cylindrical, 15-24 mm long; tepals 33-46 x 10-16 mm, ± folded towards apex, curving outwards at maturity, dainty appearance. Anthers 8.5-11.0 mm long.
