Characteristics

Plants 0.5-1.0 m high, with few to several stems in tufts. Corm ± 15-20 mm diam. Stem with lowermost peduncle 35-95(-160) mm long. Foliage leaves few, 300-650 x 1.5-3.5(-4.5) mm; reduced sheathing leaves 3 to 5. Spikes pendulous, terminal 3-to 6(9)-flowered, laterals 1 to 4(8), each 1-to 5(7)-flowered; bracts very delicate, oblong to lanceolate, acute to acuminate, 10-18 x 4-8 mm, < 2 internodes long, usually lightly or more heavily flecked along midline but sometimes pure white, lateral veins ± 5 each side of main vein, fading out in lower 1/2. Flowers funnel-shaped, mauve to magenta-pink; perianth tube 5-7 mm long; tepals 13-18(-20) x 4-6 mm. Anthers (5-)6-7(-8) mm long. Stigmas held 5-7(-12) mm below top of perianth.

Cormous herb, up to 1 m high. Bracts 10-18 x 4-8 mm, main veins 5 each side of midvein, white to lightly flecked, tip of each bract not reaching base of second bract above it. Perianth 19-27 mm long. Stigma held 5-12 mm below top of perianth. Flowers mauve to magenta-pink.
