Characteristics

Plants single-stemmed.. Corms ± 1.5 cm. diameter.. Leaves several, the basal often absent at flowering (burnt remains often visible), ± 40-60 cm. long, 2-4.5(-9) mm. wide, sheathing cauline leaves ± 4-5.. Stems 40-85 cm. long, 2-5-branched.. Spikes pendulous, the terminal spike 3-7-flowered; lateral spikes 2-7-flowered, moderately crowded (bract almost to ± 2 internodes long).. Bracts lanceolate, 1.2-2 cm. long, acute, ground colour whitish to light red-brown, flecked with brown, sometimes solid brown at the extreme base and along the midline; main veins 5-6 each side of midvein, intermediate veins well developed and therefore nearly contiguous, fading out in upper 1/3 of bract.. Flowers light to dark mauve or lilac-pink, 1.7-2.2 cm. long; tube (5-)6-7 mm. long; tepals 10-15 × 5-7 mm.. Anthers 6-7 mm. long.. Stigmas reaching to tepal-apices or shortly exceeding them.
