Characteristics

Plants 0.60-1.05 m high, solitary or up to 15 in small tufts. Corm ± 25 mm diam. Stem with lowermost peduncle 60-110(-125) mm long. Foliage leaves few, 550-750 x (3.0-)3.5-5.5(-7.0) mm; reduced sheathing leaves 4 or 5. Spikes pendulous, terminal (7)9-to 12(17)-flowered, laterals (1)3 to 6, each 5-to 11-flowered; bracts obovate or sometimes lanceolate, acute to acuminate, 14-23 x (5-)7-11 mm, usually > 2 internodes, heavily or almost solidly dark brown in lower part with broad white or lightly flecked shoulders, lateral veins 6 to 8 each side of main vein. Flowers bell-shaped with tepals suberect and flaring slightly apically, pale to deep mauve-pink, magenta or deep wine-red; perianth tube 5-8 mm long; tepals (9-)10-15 x (4-)5-7(-8) mm. Anthers 5.0-6.0(-7.5) mm long. Stigmas held 2.5-6.0 mm below top of perianth.
