Characteristics

Plants 1-2 m high, solitary or 2 or 3 in small tufts. Corm ± 30 mm diam. Stem with lowermost peduncle 55-160 mm long. Foliage leaves few, 450-900 x (3-)4-6 mm; reduced sheathing leaves ± 5. Spikes pendulous, terminal 6-to 12-flowered, laterals 3 to 8, each 3-to 11-flowered; bracts obovate-elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, acute to acuminate, 18-32 x 7-10 mm, ± 2 internodes long, white or very lightly flecked all over but appearing white, lateral veins ± 6 each side of main vein. Flowers funnel-bell-shaped, dark wine-red; perianth tube 6-12 mm long; tepals (10-)13-20 x (5-)6-9 mm. Anthers 7.0-10.5 mm long. Stigmas held at top of perianth or up to 5 mm below.
