Perennial herb, geophyte, 0.8-2.0 m high, robust; corm 25-40 mm in diam. Leaves linear, acute; venation pronounced; radical leaves 400-1200 x 3-10 mm; reduced sheathing leaves 4 or 5. Flowering stems 0.7-2.0 m high. Inflorescence a raceme of spikes, with 3-7 dense branches. Bracts brown, rarely white, flecked, 20-35 x 8-14 mm, obovate, ± acuminate. Perianth creamy white to mauve-pink, 24-35 mm long; tube 8-13 mm long; tepals 16-26 x 7-13 mm. Anthers 8-10 mm long. Flowering time Nov.-Feb.

Flowers: inflorescence pendulous with 3-7 branches; bracts (18-)20-35 x 8-14 mm, tip of each reaching to or beyond base of second bract above it, whitish heavily flecked brown in upper parts; anthers (7-)8-12 mm long; perianth 26-35 mm long, creamy white to pale pink or mauve; Dec.-Feb.
