Characteristics

Plants 100-600 mm high, solitary or up to ± 3 tufted together. Corm ± 15 mm diam. Stem with basal internode 5-20 mm long, developing 1 or 2 cormlets in axil of lowest cauline leaf; lowermost peduncle (when present) 20-160 mm long. Foliage leaves up to 4, borne on a separate shoot and often not developed at flowering, ± 150-400 x 2.0-3.5 mm; sheathing cauline leaves 4 or 5. Spikes with terminal erect, 1-to 5-flowered, laterals lacking or up to 4, pendulous, each 1-to 3(5)-flowered; bracts ovate, 3-toothed with median tooth largest, 6-14 x 5-8 mm, 1/2 to 11/2 internodes long, lightly to heavily flecked reddish brown, lateral veins 4 or 5 each side of main vein, delicate. Flowers funnel-shaped with tepals flaring widely, pale mauve or pink to light purple; perianth tube 4.5-5.0(-7.0) mm long; tepals 12-19 x 4-7 mm. Anthers 5-8 mm long. Stigmas held 7-12 mm below top of perianth.
