Characteristics

Plants 1.2-2.1 m high, solitary or up to 20 in small tufts. Corm ± 30 mm diam. Stem with lowermost peduncle 45-120 mm long. Foliage leaves few, 450-1350 x (4-)5-10 mm; reduced sheathing leaves 4 or 5. Spikes pendulous, terminal 8-to 18-flowered, laterals 5 to 11 or more by compounding, each (4)6-to 13-flowered; bracts elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate, 18-25(-40) x 5-8 mm, ± 2 internodes long, almost solidly coloured to lightly flecked red-brown at base and along midline, paler and more lightly flecked on shoulders, lateral veins 5 or 6 each side of main vein. Flowers funnel-or bell-shaped, rich magenta-pink to dark reddish magenta or deep purple; perianth tube 6-11 mm long; tepals 15-23 x 5-10 mm. Anthers 6.5-9.0 mm long. Stigmas held 2-9 mm below top of perianth.
