Digitaria argyrograpta Stapf

Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Digitaria

Characteristics

Tufted perennial, 200-600 mm high; rhizomes short and knotty; culms profusely branched from lower nodes. Leaf blade 30-50 x 1-3 mm; ligule an unfringed membrane. Inflorescence digitate or subdigitate, racemes stiffly erect, usually in pairs, often adhering to each other because hairs on spikelets become entangled; rachis triquetrous, scarcely winged, scaberulous with scabrous margins; pedicels trigonous, glabrous, scabrous; spikelets abaxial, paired. Spikelets 3.0-3.7 mm long, dorsiventrally compressed; lower glume ± 0.5 mm long, ovate or triangular, nerveless; upper glume 2/3-4/5 as long as spikelet, partly exposing upper floret, 3-nerved, hairy. Florets 2; lower floret sterile, lemma 7-nerved, 3 nerves are close together in middle, thus with narrow interspaces adjacent to central nerve, appressed-hairy; upper floret bisexual, lemma pale yellow, margins flat and covering most of palea; anther 2.0-2.2 mm long. Flowering time Nov.-Mar.
More
Tufted perennial 200-600 mm high; rhizomes short, knotty; culms profusely branched from lower nodes. Leaf blade 40-200 x 1-3 mm; margins scabrid. Inflorescence of 2-3 stiff erect racemes 40-100 mm long, racemes usually close together and often adhering to each other as hairs on the spikelets become entangled; rachis triquetrous, narrowly winged, scaberulous, margins scabrid; pedicels triangular; spikelets paired. Spikelet 3.0-3.8 x 0.8 mm; internode absent; lower glume ±0.5 mm long, ovate or triangular, nerveless; upper glume 2/3-4/5 as long as spikelet, 3-nerved, adpressed hairy, hairs acute, fine, white; lower lemma as long as spikelet, 7-nerved, with 3 nerves closest together in the middle, therefore narrow interspaces adjacent to central nerve, adpressed hairy; upper lemma shorter than spikelet, partly exposed to fully exposed, pale yellow; anthers 2.0-2.2 mm long.
Perennial; up to 0.6 m high; rhizomatous and tufted; rhizomes knotty. Culms profusely branched from lower nodes. Leave blades 40-200 x 1-3 mm. Flowers: inflorescence digitate; racemes in pairs; 40-100 mm long; often adhering to each other because hairs on spikelets become entangled; spikelets up to 3 x 0.8 mm; lower glume two-thirds to four-fifths as long as spikelet; lower lemma 7-nerved with 3 nerves close together in middle; thus with narrow interspaces adjacent to central nerve.
Perennial, rhizomatous and tufted, up to 0.6 m high. Rhizomes knotty. Culms profusely branched from lower nodes. Leaf blades 40-200 mm long, 1-3 mm wide. Spikelets up to 3 mm long, 0.8 mm wide. Racemes usually in pairs 40-100 mm long, often adhering to each other because hairs on spikelets become entangled; lower glume two-thirds to four-fifths as long as spikelet; lower lemma 7-nerved with 3 nerves close together in middle, thus with narrow interspaces adjacent to central nerve.
Perennial, up to 0.6 m tall; rhizome knotty. Leaves linear; ligule an unfringed membrane. Inflorescence digitate, racemes 2 or 3, erect, adhering together by tangled hairs; rhachis scarcely winged. Spikelets 3.5-3.8 mm long, finely appressed hairy, hairs long and dense; upper glume shorter and narrower, not covering spikelet; 2-flowered, lower sterile, awnless, spaces between nerves on lower lemma narrowest next to mid-rib; upper lemma of `digitaria' type.
Perennial 60 cm. Leaves linear. Spikelets in paired racemes adhering by tangled hairs, lower lemma hairy, intervein area narrowest next to midrib.
Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate, 7-nerved, the central and 2 subcentral nerves always close together, appressed hairy.
Inflorescence composed of 2–3 racemes, 5–10 cm. long, stiffly erect, close together, 1–2 subsessile, 1 pedunculate.
Superior glume c. 4/5 of the spikelet, oblong triangular, 3-nerved, appressed hairy, hairs very fine, white, acute.
Leaf laminae 3–5 × 0.1–0.2 cm., linear, flat, scaberulous on both surfaces, scabrous along the margins.
Rhachis triquetrous, scarcely winged, up to 0.5 mm. broad, scabrous with scabrous margins.
Superior lemma somewhat shorter than the spikelet, lanceolate, acute, pale yellow.
Pedicels 2-nate, 0.5–3 mm. long, triangular, scabrous, broadened at the apex.
Inferior glume c. 0.5 mm. long, triangular, nerveless, hyaline.
Culms 20–50 cm., ascending, glabrous, nodes dark, glabrous.
A loosely caespitose perennial on a short rhizome.
Spikelets 3.5–3.8 mm. long, lanceolate.
Leaf sheaths glabrous to loosely hairy.
Ligule c. 0.5 mm. long, truncate.
