Digitaria atrofusca A.Camus

Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Digitaria

Characteristics

Short lived perennial; culms 80–150 cm. high, geniculately ascending or straggling.. Leaf-blades narrow, 15–45 cm. long, 2–11 mm. wide.. Inflorescence of 3–11 subdigitate racemes; racemes 8–22 cm. long, the spikelets in groups of 3–5 on a ribbon-like winged rhachis with rounded or shallowly angular midrib; pedicels glabrous.. Spikelets narrowly elliptic, 1.8–2.7 mm. long; lower glume a membranous cuff up to 0.2 mm. long; upper glume 1/3–1/2 as long as the spikelet, 3-nerved, glabrous to pubescent with slender obscurely capitellate hairs; lower lemma as long as the spikelet, 7-nerved, the nerves evenly spaced, glabrous to pubescent; fruit elliptic, dorsally flattened, dark-brown to black.
More
Leaf laminae 15–25 × 0.3–0.5 cm., linear, flat, glabrous and smooth on both surfaces, sometimes with a few bulbous-based bristles near the base, scaberulous along the margin.
Superior glume 1/3–2/3 of the spikelet, oblong triangular, 3-nerved, appressed hairy, hairs fine, sometimes capitellate, white-hyaline.
Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate, with recurved margins, 5–7-nerved, nerves equidistant, appressed hairy.
Rhachis conspicuously winged, up to 1.0 mm. broad, smooth to slightly scaberulous, with scabrous margins.
Inflorescence composed of (3)4–8 racemes, 9–20 cm. long, erect, solitary on a well developed common axis.
A loosely caespitose annual in appearance or a short-living (?) perennial on a short, weak rhizome.
Pedicels 3-nate, 0.2–1.75 mm. long, subterete to subtriquetrous, scabrous, broadened at the apex.
Superior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate, slightly apiculate, dark brown.
Culms 60–100 cm., erect to ascending, glabrous, nodes dark and glabrous.
Inferior glume absent to obsolete, truncate, hyaline.
Ligule up to 2 mm. long, truncate, ciliolate.
Spikelets 2.0–2.5 mm. long, lanceolate.
