Characteristics

Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong triangular to narrowly rhomboidal, with recurved margins, 5(7)-nerved, the central and subcentral nerves prominent and well developed.

Superior glume c.2/3 of the spikelet, oblong triangular with a basal spur, 3-nerved, nerves poorly developed, appressed hairy, hairs long, white to pale rufous, stiff, acute.
Pedicels 2-nate, rarely a few near the top solitary', 0.5–3 mm. long, triangular, scabrous, scarcely broadened at the apex.
Inflorescence composed of 2 racemes, 3–6 cm. long, one lateral and subsessile, the other terminal, erect and pedunculate.
Leaf laminae 4–8 × 0.2–0.4 cm., linear, flat, glabrous and scaberulous on both surfaces, scaberulous along the margins.
Superior lemma slightly smaller than the spikelet, lanceolate, slightly acuminate, pale brown (unripe?).
Rhachis triquetrous, broadly winged, up to 0.75 mm. broad, smooth with ciliolate margins.
Culm 10–25 cm., erect, glabrous, nodes dark and hairy.
Ligule up to 2 mm. long, obtuse, erose and ciliolate.
A fasciculate or solitary growing, slender annual.
Spikelets 2.5–2.8 mm. long, narrowly rhomboidal.
Leaf sheaths scaberulous.
