Characteristics

Stoloniferous perennial; culms 30–60 cm. high, wiry, ascending, decumbent below.. Leaf-blades broadly linear, 5–20 cm. long, 4–7 mm. wide, the tip filiform.. Inflorescence of 2–6 slender racemes, these subdigitate or borne on a short axis up to 2 cm. long, not whorled; racemes 8–15 cm. long, with a triquetrous rhachis bearing contiguous pairs of spikelets, these sometimes arrested towards the base of the raceme.. Spikelets lanceolate, 2.7–3 mm. long; lower glume a little ovate scale 0.2 mm. long, separated from the lower lemma by a very short internode 0.1–0.2 mm. long; upper glume 0.5 mm. long; lower lemma as long as the spikelet, 7-nerved, the nerves raised and prominent, glabrescent on the back, shortly pilose to villous on the margins; fruit narrowly ellipsoid, chestnut brown, subacuminate.
