Characteristics

Leaf laminae 5–20 × 0.3–0.4 mm., linear, flat, densely scabrous and loosely hairy on the superior surface, loosely to densely hairy on the inferior surface, scabrous along the margins.

Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate with recurved margins, 7-nerved, the central and two pseudomarginal nerves well developed, appressed hairy, hyaline.
Superior glume c. 1/2–2/3 of the spikelet, oblong-triangular, 3(5)-nerved, hyaline, appressed hairy, hairs long, hyaline to rufous, capitate-apiculate at the apex.
Inflorescence composed of (2)3–4 racemes, (5)10–25 cm. long, erect, sometimes closely together, solitary on a short common axis.
Culms 40–100 cm., erect, glabrous or loosely appressed hairy, nodes dark, glabrous or loosely appressed hairy.
