Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Digitaria

Characteristics

Densely tufted perennial, 200-550 mm high; hairy cataphylls present. Leaf blade 0-60 x 1.8-2.2 mm, often rolled; ligule an unfringed membrane. Inflorescence a solitary raceme; rachis triquetrous, broadly winged, undulating, scaberulous on margins; pedicels pubescent; spikelets paired. Spikelets 2.8-3.2 mm long, dorsiventrally compressed; glumes unequal; lower glume reduced to a small scale up to 0.2 mm long or suppressed; upper glume 1/2 as long as spikelet, 3-nerved, pubescent; internode absent. Florets 2; lower floret sterile, lemma lanceolate, as long as spikelet, 5-nerved, densely covered with yellowish hairs 1 mm long; upper floret bisexual, lemma ± as long as spikelet, light brown, exposed, margins flat and covering most of palea. Flowering time Nov.-Feb.

Densely tufted perennial; culms 30–100 cm. high.. Leaf-blades filiform or flattened, 4–20 cm. long, 1–3 mm. wide.. Inflorescence a solitary raceme 6–20 cm. long, the spikelets paired on a narrowly winged triquetrous rhachis; pedicels pubescent.. Spikelets narrowly elliptic-oblong, 2.5–4 mm. long; lower glume a tiny membranous scale up to 0.2 mm. long or suppressed; upper glume 2/3–3/4 as long as the spikelet, 3-nerved, pilose, gibbous at the base; lower lemma as long as the spikelet, 5-nerved, pilose with smooth stiff yellowish hairs; fruit ellipsoid, light brown, slightly gibbous and keeled at the base.
Perennial, densely tufted, up to 0.55 m high. Leaf blades 30-60 mm long, 1.8-2.2 mm wide, often rolled. Culm with hairy cataphylls. Spikelets 2.8-3.2 mm long, 1 mm wide. Raceme solitary, 50-180 mm long; spikelets in pairs; upper glume and lower lemma covered with yellow hairs 1 mm long; female-fertile (upper) floret light brown.
Perennial; up to 0.55 m high; densely tufted. Culms with hairy cataphylls. Leaf blades 30-60 x 1.8-2.2 mm; often rolled. Flowers: raceme solitary; 50-180 mm long; spikelets 2.8-3.2 x 1 mm; spikelets in pairs; upper glume and lower lemma covered with yellow hairs 1 mm long; upper female-fertile floret light brown.
Superior glume c. 1/2 of the spikelet, oblong-triangular, 3-nerved, the central nerve poorly developed, appressed hairy, hairs white or rufous, stiff, acute, overtopping the superior glume.
Leaf laminae 2–5 × 0.2–0.3 cm., linear, flat, scaberulous and loosely hairy on the superior surface, loosely hairy on the inferior surface, smooth to scaberulous along the margin.
Rhachis triquetrous, broadly winged, up to 0.8 mm. broad, conspicuously undulating and wings recurved, smooth to scaberulous, margin thickened, ciliate.
Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate, with recurved margins, 5-nerved, appressed hairy, hairs slightly overtopping the spikelet.
Pedicels 2-nate, 0.5–2.5 mm. long, triangular, densely scabrous on the superior part, broadened at the apex, bearing a coronula.
A tightly caespitose perennial on a very short rhizome, base surrounded by cataphylls and old leaf sheath remnants.
Superior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate, acute, basally gibbous, sharply keeled, pale brown.
Spikelets 2.7–3 mm. long, oblong-lanceolate, basally adaxially gibbous.
