Digitaria perrottetii Stapf

Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Digitaria

Characteristics

Coarse annual; culms 30–200 cm. high, geniculately ascending, often rooting at the lower nodes.. Leaf-blades linear to lanceolate, 3–35 cm. long, 3–20 mm. wide, commonly rounded at the base and often subamplexicaul.. Inflorescence lanceolate, 8–30 cm. long, of numerous short spreading racemes arranged in successive whorls (or sometimes only the lower branches whorled) on a central axis much longer than the racemes; racemes 2–11 cm. long, the spikelets paired on a triquetrous rhachis usually bearing occasional long glistening hairs.. Spikelets narrowly elliptic-oblong, 1.2–2.3 mm. long; lower glume absent; upper glume 3/4 to as long as the spikelet, 3-nerved, pubescent; lower lemma as long as the spikelet, 5–7-nerved, pubescent (often obscurely so); fruit ellipsoid, light brown.
More
Loosely tufted annual 400-800 mm; culm decumbent, rooting at lower nodes. Leaf blade 20-100 x 3-15 mm. Inflorescence 80-200 mm long, racemes arranged in 8-12 whorls on a central axis, each whorl consists of 4-8 racemes 20-80 mm long; rachis triquetrous, not winged, scaberulous with few bulbous-based hairs at base; pedicel triangular, scaberulous; spikelets solitary or in pairs, widely spaced on axis. Spikelet 1.5-2.5 mm long, hairy, hairs slightly exceeding spikelet; lower glume absent; upper glume shorter than spikelet, 3-nerved, hairy; internode absent; lower lemma as long as spikelet, 5-nerved, hairy; upper lemma shorter than spikelet, pale to dark brown; anthers 1.2-1.4 mm long.
Annual, loosely tufted, up to 0.8 m high. Leaf blades 30-90 mm long, 3-15 mm wide. Culms decumbent and rooting from lower nodes. Spikelets 1.5-2.0 mm long, 1 mm wide. Panicle 80-200 mm long, racemes arranged in 8-12 whorls on a central axis, each whorl consisting of 4-8 racemes, 20-50 mm long; spikelets solitary or in pairs, widely spaced on axis; upper glume as long as spikelet.
Inflorescence composed of 40–100 racemes, (2)3–8 cm. long, the inferior 20–50 in 4–6 whorls of 5–8 racemes, the superior 20–30 racemes solitary along a tall common axis, the racemes in the inferior whorls are conspicuously peduncled.
Leaf laminae 2–10 × 0.5–1.4 cm., lanceolate to linear, flat, glabrous on both surfaces, often with a few bulbous based bristles near the base, scabrous along the margin.
Superior glume somewhat shorter than the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate, 3-nerved, appressed hairy, hairs fine, smooth, acute, slightly overtopping the glume.
Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate, 5-nerved, nerves equidistant, smooth, appressed hairy, hairs slightly overtopping the lemma.
Rhachis triquetrous, unwinged, scabrous, loosely hairy, at the base with a few bulbous based bristles, scabrous at the margins.
Pedicels 2-nate, 0.2–2.8 mm. long, triangular, scabrous, slightly broadened at the apex.
Superior lemma shorter than the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate, acute, pale to dark brown.
Culms 40–100 cm., ascending, glabrous, nodes dark and glabrous.
Leaf sheaths smooth and glabrous, rarely loosely hairy.
A loosely caespitose or solitary growing annual.
Erect annual with coarse leaves, 1–1·2 m. high.
Spikelets 1.7–2.2 mm. long, oblong-lanceolate.
Ligule c. 1 mm. long, truncate, erose.
Inferior glume absent.
