Characteristics

Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong with recurved margins, centrally not sulcate, 5-nerved, the central nerve poorly developed, appressed hairy, hairs along the subcentral nerves long, stiff, acute, swollen at the base, often purplish, marginal hairs more slender, hairs overtopping the spikelet by less than 0.5 mm.

Superior glume 2/3–4/5 of the spikelet, oblong triangular, 3-nerved, appressed hairy, hairs fine, stiff, acute, white to purplish.
Pedicels 3-nate, 0.5–3.5 mm. long, subtriangular, smooth or minutely scaberulous, asymmetrically broadened at the apex.
Leaf laminae 2–3 × 0.4–0.7 cm., oblong-lanceolate, flat, glabrous on both surfaces, scabrous along the crisped margin.
