Characteristics

Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, rhomboidal-oblong, with recurved margins, 5-nerved, the central and 2 marginal nerves well developed, appressed hairy, hairs slightly overtopping the spikelet.

Superior glume c. 3/4 of the spikelet, oblong triangular, 3-nerved, appressed hairy, hairs stiff, acute, often purplish tinged, the basal, acute spur 0.6–0.8 mm. long.
Rhachis subterete near the base, triquetrous and winged, up to 0.4 mm. broad in the upper part, smooth with smooth or slightly scaberulous margins.
Leaf laminae 1–7 × 0.1–0.4 cm., linear, flat to involute, glabrous on both surfaces, nearly smooth along the margin, often dark reddish coloured.
Inflorescence composed of up to 30 racemes, 1–3 cm. long, erect to patent, solitary along the tall common axis, distinctly peduncled.
Pedicels solitary, 1–1.5 mm. long, subtriangular, with long cilia in the upper part, asymmetrically broadened at the apex.
Superior lemma somewhat smaller than the spikelet, rhomboidal-oblong, slightly apiculate, pale yellow.
Spikelets 2.3–2.6 mm. long (excl. basal spur), rhomboidal-oblong.
A loosely caespitose or solitary growing, slender annual.
Culms 10–60 cm., erect, glabrous, nodes dark, glabrous.
Ligule 0.5–3 mm. long, truncate, erose.
