Characteristics

Leaf laminae 2–5 × 0.2–0.4 cm., lanceolate to linear, flat, glabrous and smooth to scaberulous on both surfaces, scaberulous along the crisped margin, basal leaves bright red when fresh, dark reddish purple when dry.

Pedicels 2-nate at the base, solitary in the superior half, 0.5–2.5 mm. long, triangular to compressed, with long cilia in the superior half, asymmetrically broadened at the apex, bearing a well developed coronula.
Superior glume c.1/2 of the spikelet, oblong triangular, with a basal “spur”, 3-nerved, appressed hairy, hairs long, white to purplish, stiff, acute, overtopping the glume.
Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, lanceolate, 5-nerved, rnidnerve prominent and well developed, densely appressed hairy, hairs overtopping the spikelet by 0.5–1 mm.
Superior lemma c.3/4 of the spikelet, lanceolate, slightly acuminate, with a basal spur, pale brown (unripe?).
Inflorescence composed of 2 racemes, 3–5 cm. long, both racemes equally long peduncled.
Rhachis triquetrous, scarcely winged, c. 0.2 mm. broad, smooth with smooth margins.
Spikelets 3–3.5 mm. long (excl. overtopping hairs and basal spur), lanceolate.
Culms 10–25 cm., erect, glabrous, nodes dark and glabrous.
A loosely caespitose or solitary growing, slender annual.
Ligule c. 1 mm. long, truncate.
Inferior glume absent.
