Spikelets elliptic, 1.5–1.8 mm. long; glumes absent, or the upper represented by a little hyaline cuff; lower lemma as long as the spikelet, 5-nerved, densely covered with short turgidly clavate hairs; fruit dorsally compressed, chestnut brown.
