Superior glume c. 1/3 of the spikelet, 1–3-nerved, hyaline, appressed hairy, hairs thick, slightly undulating, capitate-apiculate, often red brown.
Leaf laminae 5–15 × 0.1–0.3 cm., linear, involute or flat, densely scabrous on both surfaces, scabrous along the margin.
Inferior lemma as long as the spikelet, oblong-lanceolate with narrow recurved margins, 5-nerved, appressed hairy.
Rhachis triquetrous, very narrowly winged, up to 0.3 mm. broad, undulate, smooth with scabrous margins.
