Superior glume c.3/4 of the spikelet, oblong triangular, 3(5)-nerved, glabrous, yellowish green or purplish tinged.
Leaf laminae 3–5 × 0.1–0.3 cm., linear, flat, scaberulous on both surfaces, scaberulous along the margin.
Inflorescence composed of 3–8 racemes, 1–4 cm. long, often branched, dispersed along a short common axis.
Rhachis triquetrous, scarcely winged, up to 0.2 mm. broad, smooth with scaberulous margins.
Superior lemma as long as the spikelet, acute to slightly acuminate, purplish tinged.
Pedicels 2-nate, 0.5–3 mm. long, triquetrous, scaberulous, broadened at the apex.
Leaf sheaths sometimes scaberulous, glabrous to loosely hairy.

Culms 10–20 cm., glabrous, nodes dark and hairy.
