Leaf-blades tough, linear with filiform tips, 30–65 cm. long, 4–5 mm. wide, flat or inrolled, scabrid, grey-green with a conspicuous broad white midrib; ligule 4–6 mm. long, pointed, soon becoming lacerate.. Inflorescence 23–40 cm. long, composed of 20–50 slender slightly flexuous racemes; racemes 12–20 cm. long, loosely ascending to widely spreading.. Spikelets 8–15-flowered, narrowly oblong, 10–14 mm. long, slightly overlapping, olive-grey; glumes lanceolate to narrowly oblong, keeled, scaberulous on the keels, subacute, the lower 2.2–3.2 mm. long, the upper 3.2–3.8 mm. long; lemmas narrowly oblong, 3.6–4.8 mm. long, obscurely appressed pilose near the margins in the lower half, otherwise glabrous, entire, acuminate with the midnerve extended into a mucro 0.25–0.5 mm. long; anthers 1.4–2.1 mm. long..
