Characteristics

Shrub to small tree to 4 (–5) m high. Leaf axes and peduncles rusty tomentose. Leaf rachis 21–34 cm long; leaflets 3–5 (6) pairs, the lamina oblong-ovate or oblong-elliptic, obtuse or rounded but shortly acuminate, broadly obtuse or truncate at base, 9–22 (–26) cm long, 4–9 (–15) cm wide, hairy especially on midrib and lateral veins; petiolules 7–35 mm long; petiole 15–18 cm long. Panicles 6–13 cm long; bracts 4–7 mm long, rusty velvety; flowers 7–8 mm diam.; pedicels 6–8 mm long. Calyx lobes ovate 3–5 mm long, tomentose outside. Petals 5, one reduced, usually as long as calyx. Disc complete or nearly so. Fruit broadly obovoid or obcordate, orange or orange-yellow, 1.5–2 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, 2-or 3-sulcate; valves golden-rusty velvety outside, sparsely silky inside. Aril orange-red.
