Characteristics

Plants erect, usually slender, 60-400 mm tall; leaves cauline, linear, imbricate, 30-120 mm long, shortly sheathing below, grading into the floral bracts. Inflorescences slender, dense, numerous-flowered; bracts usually overtopping the flowers. Flowers facing down, white to brown or purple, often spotted. Median sepal 3-8 mm tall, galea suborbicular, obtuse or apiculate; spur semi-pendent with a deep dorsal groove extending up the galea, 0.2-2.2 mm long, emarginate; lateral sepals patent, narrowly oblong to oblong, obtuse, flat, 3-6 mm long. Petals falcate, obtuse or truncate, c. 2 mm long, erect next to the anther, basal anticous lobe flanking the stigma. Lip lorate, obtuse, 2.5-5 mm long. Anther horizontal; stigma with a raised front margin; rostellum with truncate lateral lobes and a short, fleshy central lobe.
