Young shoots and inflorescence-axes evenly to sparingly and minutely whitish pubescent, later glabrescent.. Petioles (1–)3–5(–7) cm. long, somewhat pulvinate at the apex and base, adaxially pubescent, abaxially glabrous; leaf-blades oblong, elliptic-oblong or occasionally suborbicular, (3–)6–10(–15) cm. long, (2–)4–6(–10) cm. wide, abruptly and shortly obtusely acuminate, usually shallowly and rather remotely crenulate, cuneate or rounded, firmly chartaceous to thinly coriaceous, 3-nerved from the base, often strongly so, with the lateral basal nerves often reaching more than half-way up the lamina, the remaining lateral nerves 2–4 pairs, ± brochidodromous, slightly prominent above, prominent beneath, tertiary nerves subparallel, quarternary network reticulate, pubescent along the midrib and main nerves above and beneath, otherwise ± glabrous, basal glands elliptic or ± circular, dark green above, paler beneath and with the midrib and nerves pale.. Stipules minute, 0.5 mm. long, pubescent, soon falling.. Male inflorescences up to 20 cm. long; bracts triangular-ovate, 1 mm. long, acute, pubescent.. Male flowers: pedicels 1–1.5 mm. long, articulate ± one-third from the base, densely pubescent; sepals ovate, 1.5 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, subacute, sparingly pubescent without, glabrous within, greenish; extrastaminal disc-glands ± 7, conic-ovoid, ± 0.5 mm. long, acute, sericeous pubescent at the apex; intrastaminal glands ± 8, slightly smaller than the extrastaminal and unequal, irregular in shape, densely sericeous; stamens mostly situated between the two whorls of disc-glands, with one also in the centre of the inner whorl, filaments 2 mm. long, glabrous, anthers ± 0.3 mm. long, yellow.. Female inflorescences up to 12 cm. long, but more commonly 5–8 cm. long; bracts as in the ♂ inflorescences.. Female flowers: pedicels 1–1.5 mm. long, not extending in fruit, articulate near the base, densely pubescent; sepals triangular-ovate, 1.5 mm. long, 1 mm. wide at the base, acute, sparingly pubescent without, glabrous within; disc-glands 6–8, ± obovate, somewhat flattened, incurved at the obtuse, truncate or emarginate apex, densely sericeous pubescent at the apex, otherwise ± glabrous; ovary trilobate-subglobose, 1.5 mm. long and in diameter, densely yellowish sericeous pubescent; styles 1 mm. long.. Fruit trilobate, 4–5 mm. long, 6–8 mm. diameter, ± smooth, sparingly pubescent, greenish.. Seeds 3–4 mm. long, 2–3 mm. wide.. Fig. 44.
