Characteristics

Lower and basal leaves 9–35(58) x 1.5–4.5(7) mm., oblong, obtuse, sessile, entire; cauline leaves 2–8 x 1–2.5 mm., becoming small above, distant, broadly ovate, connate at base up to midway, in some cases forming distinct sheath.

Corolla tube 11–14 mm. long, slender, cylindric, gibbous-geniculate at apex; upper lip bilobed; lower lip broadly trilobed, 9–12 mm. long.
Flowers solitary in axils of inflorescence bracts, mauve, violet-blue to purple, forming terminal, few-branched, panicle.
