Characteristics

Stem partly subterraneous, 5-12 mm thick, sometimes ± tuberous. Leaves rosulate; stipules broadly ovate to elliptic, 0.2-0.3 mm long; petiole 3-10(-20) cm long; blade chartaceous, reniform (to cordiform or to suborbicular), 3.5-8.5 x 3.5-10 cm, apex rounded, base cordate, margin crenate-dentate to sinuate, sometimes lobate or to 3-5-fid, scabrous to scabridulous above, puberulous on the veins beneath; secondary veins 3-4(-5) pairs. Inflorescences unisexual, at least the flowering face reddish-brown to purplish; receptacle discoid to shallowly cup-shaped, orbicular, ca. 1 cm in diam. Endocarp body smooth.
