Characteristics

Shrub or tree, up to 6(-30) m high. Bark grey or brownish. Branches horizontal to trunk; branchlets with dense, rusty hairs when young. Leaves distichous; blade ovate, narrowly ovate or elliptic, 20-120 x 10-60 mm, base asymmetrical, tapering, apex acute to acuminate, margins entire and shallowly toothed, upper surface dark, shiny green, lower surface paler green with net-veining prominent, dense, brown hairs on petiole and base of midrib; petioles up to 10 mm long; stipules triangular. Flowers: perianth greenish yellow; male flowers in axillary clusters; female flowers solitary in leaf axils, styles conspicuous; Sep.-Nov. Fruit an ovoid, fleshy drupe, ± 15 mm in diameter, yellowish orange, hairy.
