Tree to ca. 40 m tall; young stems yellowish to reddish tomentose. Leaves 7-9-foliolate, rarely 1-foliolate; leaflets 6-18 cm long, 4-9 cm wide, ovate, elliptic, elliptic oblong, or obovate, the apex obtuse or sometimes acuminate, densely crisp pubescent below, glabrous above. Inflorescence racemose, reddish tomen-tose, the bracts clawed, rhomboid lanceolate, acuminate, 7-10 mm long, 4-7 mm wide, oblique, erose; bracteoles ovate, clawed, cordate, erose, 9-12 mm long, 8-9 mm wide, acute. Flowers 17-20 mm long; calyx ca. 10 mm long, the lobes ca. 5 mm long; corolla purplish. Fruit ca. 5 cm long, ca. 2.5 cm wide, 1-seeded.
