Characteristics

Plants caespitose, rhizomatous. Culms erect or geniculately ascending, 5–50 cm high, 2–5-noded. Leaves: basal sheath margins connate in lower 1/3; blade 2–12 (–20) cm long, 1–3 mm wide. Panicles erect, 0.5–2 (–2.5) cm long. Spikelets subsessile, cuneate, 2–3.5 mm long. Glumes about equalling floret, acute; margins ciliolate to ciliate; keel hispid to hirsuteciliate, with hairs to 0.6 mm long; lower glume lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, (2–) 2.3–2.8 mm long; upper glume narrowly elliptic or oblong or lanceolate, 2–2.6 mm long. Callus hairs to 0.8 mm long. Lemma narrowly ovate, 2–2.6 mm long, acute, bidentate, shortly awned, 5 (–7)-nerved; nerves glabrous or scaberulous, with hairs on marginal nerves towards apex; intercostal regions glabrous; awn 0.9–3 (–4) mm long, inserted (0.1–) 0.2–0.5 mm below apex. Palea narrowly oblong to lanceolate, acute to narrowly truncate, with nerves scaberulous at apex. Anthers 0.5–1 mm long. Ovary glabrous. Caryopsis obloid.
