Leaf-blades linear, loosely folded, 19–30 cm. long, 4–6 mm. wide, scabrid along the keel and margins, tapering to a subacute tip; ligule 0.25 mm. long, a minute membranous ciliolate rim.. Inflorescence subdigitate, composed of ± 9 slender, loosely ascending spikes 5–15 cm. long clustered towards the top of the culm.. Spikelets 4–6-flowered, elliptic, 5–6 mm. long, brownish, laxly arranged and only slightly overlapping, those towards the base and apex of the spikes reduced or vestigial; glumes 1-nerved, obtuse, the lower narrowly oblong in profile, 1.7–2.5 mm. long, the upper narrowly elliptic in profile, 2.3–2.4 mm. long; lemmas elliptic-oblong, 3.2–3.8 mm. long, glabrous or obscurely appressed pilose along the margins in the lower half, the tip obtuse.. Grain obovate, 1–1.2 mm. long, shallowly concave on the hilar side, conspicuously granular-striate, reniform in cross-section.
