Characteristics

Sessile spikelets c. 7 mm long (including the callus); callus 1–1.5 mm long, narrowly obtuse at the base, white-pubescent; superior glume with a slender awn 3–5 mm long; superior lemma 4–4.5 mm long, bilobed to the middle; awn 1.2–2.1 cm long, the column hispidulous with white hairs.

Leaf sheaths glabrous or puberulous, with a tuft of long hairs at the mouth; ligules c. 0.5 mm long, glabrous or ciliolate; leaf laminas 3–20 cm × 2–6 mm, stiff, glabrous or puberulent.
Racemes 2.5–7 cm long, 6-to 16-awned per pair, slender, loose; raceme-bases glabrous or villous, the inferior very short, the superior 5–10 mm long.
Panicle scanty, narrow, of 1–3 pairs of racemes; spatheoles linear, 5–15 cm long, glabrous or sparsely hirsute; peduncle glabrous or softly villous.
Homogamous spikelet-pairs 1 at the base of the inferior raceme, c. 6 mm long, similar to the pedicelled spikelets.
Pedicelled spikelets 6–8 mm long (excluding the callus), white-villous, acute; callus 1–1.5 mm long.
