Elytrophorus globularis Hack.

Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Elytrophorus

Characteristics

Annual hygrophyte to 500 mm high; leaves often overtopping the inflorescence. Leaf blade 30-500 x 3-8 mm. Inflorescence to 200 mm long, narrow, interrupted; spikelets clustered into dense, globose aggregations 8-12 mm wide and spaced at intervals of 10-25 mm apart up the axis, sometimes confluent near apex; clusters subtended by 2 to many acuminate bracts, each to 12 mm long, longer than spikelets. Spikelet 4-6 mm long (including awns), hairy; glumes 4-6 mm long, long hairy; floret firm; lemma 3.5-5.0 mm long (including stiff awn), acuminate, awned, awn up to 2.5 x longer than lemma body; palea wings conspicuous, projecting from lemma; anther 0.5-2.0 mm long.
More
Annual, hydrophyte, up to 500 mm tall. Leaves often overtopping inflorescence, leaf blades 30-500 mm long, 3-8 mm wide. Spikelets 4-7 mm long (including lemma awns). Panicle narrow, interrupted, up to 200 mm long; spikelets clustered into dense, globose aggregations 8-12 mm in diameter and spaced at intervals of 10-25 mm up the axis, sometimes confluent near apex; clusters subtended by 2 to many bracts, each to 12 mm long; glumes 4.5-6.0 mm long; lemmas 3.5-5.0 mm long, including stiff awn; anthers 1-3, 1.5-2.0 mm long.
Annual; culms 5–60 cm. high, erect.. Leaf-blades up to 25 cm. long and 6 mm. wide.. Panicle 3–20 cm. long, the glomerules 5–11 mm. in diameter, often contiguous but scarcely confluent, the bracts usually exceeding the spikelets, up to 10 mm. long, acicular.. Glumes subequal, 4.5–6 mm. long; lemma 3.5–5 mm. long (including awn), acuminate to a short stiff awn-point; palea-wings variously notched; lodicules 1–2; anthers 1–3, 0.3–2.2 mm. long.
Glumes 2.6–4.5 mm long, lanceolate, crispate-hirsute; lemmas 3.6–4.8 mm long (including awn), ovate-lanceolate, acuminate to a short stiff awn-point; palea wings conspicuous and projecting from the sides of the lemma.
Inflorescence 3–14 cm long, the glomerules globular, 5–11 mm in diameter, sometimes contiguous but scarcely confluent, the bracts usually exceeding the spikelets.
Annual up to 60 cm tall, erect; leaf laminas up to 30 cm × 7 mm, glabrous.
