Inflorescences of cymes arranged in axillary or terminal panicles; bracts caducous. Flowers cream or yellow, bisexual, 5-merous. Hypanthium cup-shaped. Sepals erect or spreading, caducous. Petals cucullate, clawed, incurved or erect. Stamens subequal to the petals, incurved or erect. Disc conspicuous, thin, lining the hypanthium, smooth, glabrous. Ovary free from disc, ± superior; carpels 2 or 3; style 2-or 3-lobed. Fruit a yellow or orange, dry, leathery schizocarp, the pyrenes falling to leave the brightly-coloured, exarillate seed persistent on the receptacle; torus basal.
