Characteristics

Shrub with slender branches to 1 m. or so; twigs compressed, sparsely scurfy pubescent to brownish tomentellous.. Petiole 4–10 mm. long, puberulous at least in groove; lamina thin, fresh green with red midrib or flush, ovate-lanceolate to ovate, 2.5–7 cm. long, 1–3.5 cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, cuneate to rounded or slightly cordate at the base, sometimes slightly crisped along margins, scurfy puberulous when young, soon glabrescent except often near the base, with 7–12 pairs of spreading lateral nerves.. Flowers 8–16 per umbel; peduncle 4–6(–8) mm. long, sparsely to densely hairy; pedicels 4–8 mm. long; bract ovate-triangular from a shallow cup, 1.5–3 mm. long, gibbous, puberulous.. Receptacle 1–2 mm. long.. Calyx 0.5–1.5 mm. long, ciliolate.. Corolla 1.8–2.3 cm. long, pink to red on tube, darker at vents and inside, with white to cream lobes with red tips; buds slightly 4-angular, bossed at vents, slightly wrinkled above, apical swelling slight, 5–6 mm. long; tube 4–5 mm. long, with irregular deep V-slit, smooth inside; lobes recurved to revolute, linear, slightly auricled at the base.. Stamen-filaments 11–15 mm. long, dark red, loosely coiled, slightly expanded at the base; tooth 0.1–0.2 mm. long, a little below anther; anthers 3.5–3.8 mm. long..
