Petiole 1–7(20) mm long, shallowly channelled, often scurfy pubescent at least in the groove; lamina thin, dull pale green, often coppery-reddish when young, 3–12 × 0.5–4.5 cm, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate or ovate, acuminate, cuneate to rounded or rarely slightly cordate at the base, glabrous, with 6–10 pairs of lateral nerves, all spreading or the lower few more ascending.
Corolla 2.5–3.5(4) cm long, yellow, orange or red, often more red on head, dark red inside tube; buds a little inflated in lower part, tapered to vents, then narrow to a slight oblong-ellipsoid apical swelling 3–5 mm long; tube 1.1–1.6 cm long, with V-slit often extending to base, papillate inside; lobes erect, 1.4–2 cm long, linear-spathulate.
Flowers 4–12 per umbel; peduncle 1–4(5) mm long; pedicels 4–6(8) mm long, occasionally puberulous; bract 1.5–2 mm long, ovate-triangular from a shallow cup, gibbous, ciliolate and sometimes puberulous.
Stamen filaments deep maroon to blue-black, green above, tapered downwards into corolla tube; tooth 1–2 mm long; anthers 2.5–3 mm long.
Shrub with spreading stems to 1 m or so; twigs slightly compressed, scurfy pubescent with some short spreading hairs to glabrous.
Berry red to red-purple, sometimes white basally, 6–7 × 4–5 mm, obovoid.
Calyx 0.5–1 mm long, ciliolate.
Receptacle 0.5–1.5 mm long.
